Archetypes

From Concrete to Paper

This series began during lockdown, when I no longer had access to my studio to create the concrete sculptures that usually form the core of my artistic practice. It started as a personal challenge: could I translate my work into a completely different material, using techniques that were its opposite?

I decided to add another constraint using just a single sheet of standard paper, with no glue—following the principles of Japanese Kirigami. Unlike the better-known Origami, Kirigami allows cuts as well as folds. What began as a creative challenge quickly turned into a passion, then an obsession. What you see here is part of that exploratory journey.
