Melba Toast Shelving Unit

Edible Food Display

This project explores whether it is possible to build a three-dimensional structure using everyday crackers or Melba toasts as the main material.

To achieve clean and precise cuts, I use a serrated bread knife. By going slowly and keeping the blade perpendicular to the surface, you can create smooth, accurate edges that work well for building.

To ensure dimensional consistency, I use toy bricks as reference guides. Each unit corresponds to a 1x1 brick. All components are four units wide, except for the connector piece between the two supporting legs.

As a bonding method, egg white is surprisingly effective. You can use the white from a whole egg or from a carton. Apply a small amount to the joint, then use a heat gun or a hair dryer to quickly set the piece. For more on this technique, see How to Assemble 3D Bread Structures.

If you want to try this project at home, I’ve included a plan with dimensions. Depending on the brand you use, cracker size and thickness may vary slightly, so feel free to adapt the measurements. I’ve also shown which toy bricks were used as guides.
