Modern Houses
Where It Comes From
My years spent in the studios of the architecture school in Old Quรฉbec City have had a lasting influence on my practice. This was before the internet, or almost. Young and impressionable, we followed in the footsteps of our mentors, grad students, and their idols: Corbu, Frank, Louis, Mies, Walter, and the whole Bauhaus crew. And for the visionaries, there was Rem, and his impressive S,M,L,XL.
This series of foldings doesnโt pretend, in any way, to compare to the work of these masters. Itโs simply an expression of the trace they left in my subconscious, and a small tribute to their legacy.
We all know these Masters had strong egos and, letโs say, not the easiest personalities, so the pressure was real. So yes, I got a bit intimidated and pushed myself. And without false modesty, this is one of the series Iโm most satisfied with.
Technically and conceptually, it follows the logic of the Archetypes series, but the level of complexity and difficulty is a notch, or two, higher.
